Excerpt 3

<...illegible...> the old man wanted me to give it personally so I guess it will have to wait.

The Chief finally showed up in the evening; I gave him all of the paperwork and explained where and why I am going. He asked that I finish my trip reports for objects T-1 and T-2 before I leave. I really wanted to leave before the sunset so we agreed that I will just give him the corresponding diary pages, which will provide him with enough information.

I left the Lost City and went southeast. I have less than an hour before the sunset, I do not want to go through the dark spot, it is better to go around it. Plus, I have too much information that needs to be digested first.

[-90/-24] I am moving east to [-89/-24], following the northeast road.

The old man thinks that the "border" is the result of the actions of the same forces that caused the strange occurrences back in 99th. He spent his whole life trying to figure out these forces and the nature itself. To be honest, I do not think humans will ever understand it but he seems to think otherwise.

It will be dark soon, though I do not think I am going to stop for a break. I would like to get to T-3 before tomorrow's dusk. (While I am at it - it would be nice to come back in one piece too, the old man warned me about <...illegible...>

[-72/-41] I am changing direction to northwest. It is almost night but the road is easy to navigate even in darkness. Although…just three days ago I was certain that I know everything that one needs to know about local fauna. Meeting Hector changed that perspective. I don't even know where he came from and I would really like to find out. I should have asked whether his kind is dangerous if found in the wild and found out a little bit about the behavior but the old man was rushing me and I had no time. I did not even get a chance to look at Hector much. I guess I am going to have to change my way of thinking and responding to the environment now, apparently not everything that moves is dangerous to you. To be honest, it is not as easy as it sounds. I mean, even Hector and I were not able <...illegible...>

[-95/-64] Complete darkness, it is really hard to write and I managed to lose track of the road so I had to stop and look at the map with some light on. Finally there is no more radiation; it was weak to start with but it still bothered me somewhat. I cannot remember <...illegible...> <somewhere nearby, northbound>.

[-95/-67] I was right. Got back out on the road again, heading northwest. I am going to try to get down to the valley before morning so I can get some rest.

<...illegible...> collecting the old documents and papers, by bits and pieces took so many lives but the blue folder does exist and may actually give us some answers eventually. Most of the information about those events was lost, people simply did not have the ability to leave <...illegible...> to their successors.

[-115/-87] Sunrise (I cannot describe my feelings with words, too bad I am not a painter, all of a sudden I had this squeamish feeling in my chest, maybe this is the last sunrise in my life?). I am going to start the decent now, going northeast.

[-112-90] I am in a small valley now. From this vintage point it looks as if the sun hid behind the mountain peaks and it looks like I am going to have another sunrise today.

[-109/-93] It's too bad. The sun set down while I was climbing up and I missed it. It looks like the weather will be bad. I am heading north. I am out of water and oddly enough I did not drink much at night, maybe <...illegible...> may have to skip the rest too.

[-109/-115] I am moving very slowly and carefully. I have to go a little further northwest. I feel the danger here with my skin. Who or what can be harboring such anger and hatred and why?

[-110/-116] I am heading northeast now; I have to cross one more pass.

[-94/-132] The sense of danger lessened but did not disappear completely. I am still heading northeast.

[-81/-145] It looks just like the lake Shady mentioned to the old man. I am changing my direction to northwest.

[-85/-149] That's right, this is that same hill and there is a rocky elevation up ahead. I am almost there.

[-88/-152] I crossed the pass and can see the valley now. I am going to rest for half an hour here.

<...illegible...> decided to leave here, just in case. I hope to be back soon and to write down everything I discovered. I am hoping that neither the rain nor some creature's teeth will get to it before I come back. I am going to mark this place.

If you found these notes, I ask you to take them to the University, to the archeological department. Tell them you have Silent Guy's notes and they will take you to the right person.
P.S. Old man, please tell Hector I am sorry. I hope he forgave me for almost shooting him the first time we met. The rain is getting worse, it is time to <...the rest of the sentence is illegible...>
